toh goes resoluting

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Hey Friends,

We are back together this Sunday January 4th, 5pm @ choppers and I am excited to see all of you again.

In light of the season of resolutions for 2009, I felt that since our community is continually growing in understanding of what it means to walk in a Jesus direction we should spend some time on Sunday sharing some resolutions of our own as we attempt to walk in this direction.

Therefore, I wanted to encourage you to think of 2 resolutions to share at toh this Sunday.

1. A resolution that will help you personally move in a Jesus direction
* It could involve a spiritual practice (prayer, reading your bible, silence, fitness, meditation etc.) or be more practical such as volunteering locally or giving up something.
2. A community resolution that involves a role or activity that will help toh move in a Jesus direction with your leadership/ guidance.
* This could involve starting a new group, or activity that others would join with you in; taking a role more intentionally within toh (helping with choppers, teaching, music, set-up, etc.) or doing/ creating something that would bring toh together more powerfully in our neighbourhood with use of a specific gift God has given you.

I believe God is asking us to take some more steps this year in this mysterious Jesus direction and I hope that each of you will join in on that direction, and begin to take some personal steps to that end. But please don’t take these resolutions lightly, as I think there is something spiritual in the resolution or as we read in the bible, what seems to be described as a ‘vow.’ See these resolutions as vows to God, and to your community.

I am stoked to see how each of you utilize how God has blessed you toward a personal and social gift to yourself and the open house.

Blankets for the Drive

On Tuesday, December 16th, a bunch of us will be heading down to Grandview Park around 7pm to give out blankets. There will be a crowd of homeless people gathered there because of the weekly chilli wagon that convenes there to hand out dinners. Our goal before then is to gather as many blankets as possible to give out to people. In addition, we want to purchase some water resistant blankets from the PIVOT legal society to hand out to people. We’d be happy to accept any kind of blanket donation or money donation for the purchase of the blankets.

toh this week

Friday, December 5th, 2008

As we gear up for the Christmas holiday I thought it would be fitting to give you a quick round up of the next 3 weeks at toh.

Over the next 3 weeks we are going to be teaching on Love, in the Faith, Hope and Love wave we have been riding. We will be looking at Loving God (Dec. 7th), Loving our Neighbour (Dec. 14th), and How God loves us on December 21st, which will also be our Christmas service and last one until January 4th. We hope that you can invite someone to the 21st gathering as we celebrate the Christmas season.

Secondly, we are going to be handing out blankets as a church in Grandview Park in conjunction with the Chilli Wagon on Tuesday December 16th @ 7pm. A flyer will be sent out soon so you can send it to friends and family to gain donations for the blankets. More info to come and in the mean time you can contact Jemia if you want more information.

Lastly I added a new file to the google group website that contains the powerpoint presentation from Sunday.
